Swajan Raptors

Swajan Raptors, the youth arm of Swajan has a mission to enrich their learning and personal development by stepping beyond the four walls of their classrooms. Raptors are kids ranging in age from seven to seventeen. From helping disadvantaged families with basic necessity items to offering support for cancer patients, Swajan Raptors organizes many volunteering and fundraising activities around the metro Detroit area.
The year’s activities started with donating baked goods and toiletries to Ronald McDonald House in Ann Arbor, an organization which provides extended stay for the families of children receiving treatment at the Mott’s Children Hospital. Followed by Open door Ministries in Canton, where Raptors sorted breakfast items and snacks for the underprivileged kids. Next, the Raptors went to the Howell Nature Center and helped with taking care of wildlife by adopting a snowy owl. They also collected and donated items needed for taking care of the injured wildlife at the center.
As the year progressed, the Raptors and their families had an opportunity to visit the Environmental Interpretive Center at the University of Michigan, Dearborn, where they learned the art of making maple syrup and donated birdfeed to their Rouge River Bird Observatory. Perhaps one of their most favorite activities was when the Raptors participated in a project of making fleece blankets for University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center. The motto was “Bringing smiles to the faces of patients’ one blanket at a time”.
On Earth Day, the Raptor’s participated in the Earth Day Celebration at MSU Tollgate farm in Novi, where the kids and their parents helped keep the planet green by planting about twenty trees!
Swajan Raptors have had exciting years of community service. The kids and parents understand the concept of volunteer work and attained the satisfying feeling of giving. The raptors are already gearing up for this year’s biggest fundraising during the Durga Puja. For past few years we have been fundraising for Vista Maria in Dearborn Heights.
Do come and join us and support Raptor’s Fundraising event and help us support others.
