About Swajan
Swajan of Great Lakes is a local, non-profit, cultural, religious, educational and charitable organization serving the greater Detroit area, as well as neighboring states. Swajan was founded in 2008 and serves as a great way of catering to Indian culture, literature, traditions with particular emphasis on neighborhood people. Our members and guests represent a successful cross-section of the Indian and Bangladeshi community. Swajan is a non-profit, tax exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1954 (or the corresponding provision of any future United States Internal Revenue Law) Click here to see the letter from IRS.
It is a membership based organization and is run by a General Body of elected members and follows a constitution in its annual proceedings. It caters to the Bengali community of Metro Detroit with its annual Durga Puja and a variety of cultural programs that includes youth and adult talent shows and spectacular performances by external artists. This annual event is open to all interested in enjoying a great program and participating in the annual festivities. The organization also conducts an annual holiday party and an annual gathering for the Bengali New Year.
